What are fillings?
Fillings are synthetic materials that are used to restore a portion of a tooth damaged by decay or traumatic injury.
Composite fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin-medium that produces a tooth-colored filling. Composite fillings provide good durability and resistance to fracture. They bond directly to the tooth surface producing a strong restoration. This bonding usually allows our doctors to make a more conservative repair to the tooth. Amalgam restorations are the silver-colored fillings many people have had in their mouth for many years. These fillings contain mercury. For that reason, we do not recommend these fillings.
